The president of RTVE, José Pablo López, appeared before the Joint Parliamentary Control Committee of the Corporation to address one of the most debated issues in the media in recent days:
Before the members of parliament, he forcefully defended this position, stating that:
“RTVE’s position remains unchanged: We have maintained the same position for months, which is that Israel’s presence is untenable. we are talking about a genocide in Gaza, and that Eurovision is a competition, but human rights are not a competition.”
López stated that the measures recently presented by the EBU:
“are not sufficient and do not guarantee that government interference will not occur again. We know that if Russia and Belarus were to return to the festival, they would make similar use of Eurovision to Israel. Eurovision is more than just a competition.”
Finally, he indicated that the measures adopted by the EBU are, in RTVE’s view, a step forward, but “not enough; more measures are needed,” and this is the position that RTVE will take to the next EBU assembly on December 4th and 5th.
